40 HOUR CIT COURSE May 2026


Crisis Intervention Teams (CITs) are local initiatives designed to improve the way law enforcement and the community respond to people experiencing behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) crises.

They are built on strong partnerships between law enforcement, behavioral health provider agencies, I/DD providers and individuals and families affected by these disabilities.

8 HOUR CIT REFRESHER COURSE June 17, 2026


CIT recertification is a one-day training that reviews core CIT principles. Officers build upon their practical knowledge of mental illness, suicide prevention, substance misuse, trauma, special populations, as well as behavioral health and crisis resources. Training reinforces evidence-based crisis intervention tactics and communication strategies. Officers must exhibit practical verbal de-escalation skills and pass a knowledge check to become recertified.  Required for anyone trained over 3 years ago.
