the Beverly Police Department Community Impact Unit
Sergeant Dan Brown, (978) 720-7748, oversees the Community Impact Unit. The CIU consists of 2 full-time officers (Ofc. T. Lane and M. Marino), 2 School Resource Officers (Ofc. T. Mezza and Ofc. S. Fiore), a department clinician (Melissa C.), and a Domestic Violence Advocate (Ross S.).
The goal of the C.I.U is to foster good relations and open communication with all members of the community, as well as forming strong bonds with the most vulnerable citizens of the City of Beverly; the unhoused.
In addition to these tasks and relationships, the C.I.U. is committed to following up on all citizen concerns related to quality of life issues that arrive throughout the city.
The CIU is involved in many city groups and organizations such as the Citizens Advisory Council, The Beverly HUB Collaborative, The Community Development Coalition, Be Healthy Beverly, The Autism Touch a Truck event and many others.
The CIU and CIT-TTAC work together to train officers in CIT and implement CIT teams directly into the department. Together with the Jail Diversion Clinician, these trained officers can co-respond to individuals in crises as well as follow up with individuals with mental health concerns.
The CIU also works closely with Onestop Harm Reduction and Essex County Outreach for follow-up with individuals with substance and alcohol use disorders.
